opportunites i'm thinking about
most days of the week, i am thinking towards residencies after school. i want to be making work and sharing it with people. occasionally i wake up thinking "are you crazy? find a teaching job! look for some stability!" so, for that reason, i am also looking for residencies that have teaching involved a bit, or are connected with a university or institution.
here are some residencies i am looking into ...
McColl Center in North Carolina

Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA

Fountainhead Fellowship at VCU

I also know that my visual art will not sustain me financially because it is unsellable -- as in there is nothing to sell. So to be realistic, I need a JOB! I need a job that is harmonious with my creative work IN SOME WAY (and there are many ways this could happen). I have just started to brush the surface of jobs in related fields like: public history, textile design, creative community centers (I am actually really good at all that administration crap) public media/content production. I feel like it is a real stretch to say I am qualified for positions like those, but I'm going to just convince them that they NEED ME!
I should also add that I could see two scenarios ahead:
1) staying in Ypsilanti and finding a job harmonious with my creative work and using Ypsi as home-base while applying/traveling to residencies and projects (and doing projects at home too).
2)getting hired somewhere stable and moving and building a life from there.
We can do this (say it with me!)
